Important results from the project

Through a system approach, MoTFall has taken the challenge "Fall among the elderly" by working for early prevention of fall accidents and fall-related injuries, thereby reducing human suffering and costs as a result of falls. The overall objectives of the project were: 1. Raise awareness of falls and how it can be prevented 2. Create an ICT-based fall prevention system 3. Investigate business models for prevention 4. Staff training system All of these goals have been satisfactorily met

Expected long term effects

MoTFall has resulted in the following: - Application to elderly with training programs and prevention measures. - Digital training for staff within elderly care. - Snubblometer®, a sensor placed on the leg for assessment and monitoring of fall risks. - Survey for self-assessment of fall risk. To achieve the expected effect, there are also plans for Geriatric Fall Service, to take care of elderly with high fall risk, Impact Lab for Fall Prevention, where actors can share knowledge, experience and resources, as well as identification of funding and replacement model for prevention.

Approach and implementation

The project work has been divided into different work packages, focusing on technology development (sensors, algorithms, back end and front end), user studies, empowerment materials, fall risk assessment solutions, staff training, business models and knowledge dissemination. The project has worked with participatory design with continuous focus groups, interviews and smaller pilot tests with intended target groups, in this case, elderlyg and care staff. Validity studies on the Snubblometer have also been carried out.
