Important results from the project

The main objective of the MVD project is to create a gateway device that operates as a de facto standard for IoT with open APIs and SDK (Software Development Kit) and support development of Internet of Things in Sweden. The device consists of both hardware and software and is based on communication via WiFi and Bluetooth low energy (BLE). The intention of the project was to implement an IoT concept that identifies and solves some of the challenges in this new area and then spread the information to create a community of users in Sweden.

Expected long term effects

These are some of the project results in a short list: Fulfillment of goal part 1 (creation of the MVD gateway) - One startup (Modcam) - Sigma Connectivity - Sense gate - Softhouse, System Verification and Elastic Mobile all are using their work in the MVD to sell their competence in IoT. - Lund School of Economics and Management economic effects of MVD as a de facto standard. Fulfillment of goal part 2 (support development of the Internet of Things) - University course - Proof of concept done - Used in both the Vinnova projects Itatchi and DIA. - Nordic IoT Hackathon (NIOTH)

Approach and implementation

The project was tested and spread through 3 proof of concept projects in the areas of mHealth, transport and energy. The concept was developed, tested and verified in real environments/testbeds. The project also spread the MVD in the master´s degree education at Lund University. A hackathon was arranged where the MVD was used and tested for usefulness. Lastly Lund School of Economics and Management did an estimation of the economic effects of MVD as a de facto standard, by presenting calculations on a global, European and Nordic level as well as from a regional level.
