Important results from the project
The MIMIC project has presented a Smart Governance Concept, including a framework for evaluation, logistics strategies and policy status. The purpose is to facilitate the planning of logistics to, from and at urban construction sites. Through this, stakeholders get a tool for structuring their work around construction logistics planning and an overview of how different businesses relate to each other. This helps to improve mobility, reduce urban congestion and reduce the negative effects of construction sites on the surrounding communities.
Expected long term effects
In the Swedish part of the project, we have developed a board game and a game that can be played online, two dissertations have been presented and several research articles. One of the main tasks has been to highlight the importance of including construction logistics already in the planning and the key to doing this has been to show the effect of construction transport. The project shows how transportation is embedded in supply networks, far outside the site. MIMIC has also helped to develop construction logistics strategies implemented by partners, Älvstranden Utveckling and Oslo Bygg.
Approach and implementation
MIMIC has included actors from Sweden, Norway, Austria and Belgium. The project has combined qualitative (case studies, focus groups, workshops) and quantitative methods (optimization, simulation and calculations). We see that the role of public actors in the initiation of construction logistics solutions is central and how the relational interfaces between builders, contractors and logistics service providers affect decision-making and planning has been the starting point for the analysis.
