Important results from the project
The project objectives have been met and the resulting impacts on market are far beyond expectations. The triple collaboration between government (Swedish Maritime Administration), academia (Chalmers) and industry has been fruitful, where academic research and industrial development have successfully complemented each other. The project has led to new academic contacts with researchers from Marquette University, Wisconsin and VTT in Finland, as well as several industrial collaborations.
Expected long term effects
Collaborations will definitely lead to concepts being developed into implementing technology for a large number of existing diesel engines, which creates the conditions for a transition to renewable fuel. Available technology is one of the conditions for a transition to take place, but it is equally important that incentives are created for operators so that it is possible that the transition can also be made for competitive operations.
Approach and implementation
The project has been executed according to plan with adjustments for changing conditions.
