Important results from the project

In Sweden and internationally, new types of organizational forms and arenas have emerged as a response to meet societal challenges: urban living labs, urban transition labs, social labs, policy labs, innovation platform to take some examples. All these environments aim to promote multilevel cooperation, innovation and problem solving. The purpose of the report is to provide a picture of how these new innovation environments emerge as a steering tool to drive sustainable urban development. In connection with the report, a survey and classification of Swedish innovation environments for sustainable cities has also been made

Expected long term effects

The project delivered a survey of innovation environments linked to smart cities and also a literature review explaining the background to these environments and how these can be characterized.

Approach and implementation

Based on a research overview, the report investigates concepts and describes how test and innovation environments have developed into becoming important means for meeting societal challenges system level. In addition, a survey and classification of Swedish innovation environments in the field of sustainable cities have been implemented.
