Important results from the project
The project will generate knowledge for the development of scrap-based casting alloys with approx. 10% increased castability, 50% increased strength in the cast state and reduction of CO2 emissions by up to 500 kTon / year and per car manufacturer depending on production volume and current proportion of primary materials. Goal achievement Competence alloy development 70% - Implementation secondary alloy 55% - Mechanical properties 45% Remaining: optimization for high properties in as-cast condition Goal achievement total 55%
Expected long term effects
Results vs targets Competence alloy development 70% Remains: development calculation models, test additional alloy combinations - Implementation secondary alloy 55% Remaining: Industrial validation and standardization of developed alloy - Mechanical properties 45% Remaining: optimization for high properties in as-cast condition Expected effects: Cast secondary aluminum alloys become possible for structural applications with associated lower CO2 and costs Cast aluminum structures can increase in e.g. EVs, increasing the vehicle type´s circularity and cost efficiency
Approach and implementation
Through state of art, alloy tests and evaluations, increase knowledge about hardening of cast alloys without heat treatment for an efficient secondary cast aluminium alloy. Microanalyses identifies the influence of alloying elements on properties The work packages will identify the influence of individual and combined alloying elements on structure and properties and give a recommendation on efficient and circular mainly solution-hardening or stable precipitation-hardening alloy mix
