Call Electronic components & systems - research and innovation projects 2024

Purpose and goal

This project aims to address the challenges of linearization in advanced 5G and 6G networks, particularly due to the increased complexity of handling large antenna arrays. The project focuses on overcoming issues related to signal bandwidth, multi-antenna linearization, and load modulation in large active antenna systems. The project builds on previous research (LINEAR2) to advance these solutions´ Technology Readiness Level (TRL) by developing new hardware, designing innovative algorithms, and utilizing semi-realistic testbeds.

Expected effects and result

This project aims to keep the Swedish industry, particularly Ericsson, at the forefront of telecom by developing energy-efficient base stations for 5G and beyond. It aligns with the “Smarter Electronic Systems” goals by enhancing Ericsson´s international competitiveness through top-performing products. The focus on linearization and RF transmitter hardware will lead to sustainable development, energy savings, and environmentally-friendly telecommunication networks.

Planned approach and implementation

We plan to implement the project through four work packages (WP). WP1: Load-insensitive power amplifier WP2: Linearization Algorithm WP3: Testbeds and measurements WP4: Dissemination and demonstration
