Important results from the project
The achieved objectives include: - Developing new material blends for producing compression-molded, biomass-derived products with enhanced properties for packaging materials. - Successfully utilizing various biomass-derived materials to create wet-molded pulp with superior properties. - Conducting techno-economic evaluations and life cycle assessments of the developed materials for packaging. - Strengthening the network for biomass valorization and bio-based material development through collaboration among Swedish and Brazilian companies and institutes.
Expected long term effects
We developed new material blends for producing compression-molded, biomass-derived packaging materials with enhanced properties. Our project demonstrated the superior barrier properties and environmental benefits of these materials. The results broaden technological solutions for sustainable packaging. Additionally, the project fostered collaboration among Swedish and Brazilian companies and institutes, strengthening the network for biomass valorization and bio-based material development.
Approach and implementation
The project encompassed six work packages (WPs), focusing on technology development and market analyses: WP1: Responsible for project Management WP2: Production, modification, and characterization of different pulp qualities and microfibrillated cellulose WP3: Production and characterization of lignins and lignin nano participles WP4: Production and characterization of deodorized lignin WP5: Impregnated molded pulps and compression mold materials production and testing WP6: Economic performance, environmental impacts, and market strategies
