Important results from the project
The project objective was to develop a prototype LCA tool, focusing on climate impacts, to be relevant for graphene industries in Sweden. The tool allows users to find best available generic climate impact data for raw materials used. The user can insert specific information about their production processes, and simulate relevant scenarios for the use phase and end-of-life.
Expected long term effects
It is expected that graphene companies in Sweden will be able to identify environmental hot spots in their value chains and work towards reduced climate impacts for their products.
Approach and implementation
The mass and energy flows for the five companies´ processes were compiled, each one in a separate case. For the list of materials, best available climate impact data (cradle-to-gate) was collected from public sources. A user interface was developed in MS excel and this was combined with the data list into a computational tool. One case study was carried out for each company.
