Important results from the project

To arrange a Symposium at the Royal Academy of Science in Sweden ´Nutrition and Allergy´ to provide the latest research in the area, from novel insights in infant immune development to overviews regarding possible connections between the allergy epidemics and the way infants are being fed today. The Symposium was arranged by the National Committee for Food and Nutrition and took place in Stockholm the 27th of May with participants from academy, food industry and authorities.

Expected long term effects

An increased knowledge about the correlation between how babies are fed today and the risk of allergy development. Evidence was presented supporting early introduction of foods as protective against allergy development. The new knowledge may influence the dietary advice to pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and infants.

Approach and implementation

The Nutrition and Allergy Symposium gathered world-renowned scientists who gave their view on the latest research in this area. The Symoposium was finalized by a concluding panel debate where the lack of knowledge and need for futher randomized controlled intervention studies was discussed as well as that we today lack enough knowledge to give dietary advice to pregnant women, breastfeeding women and infants in relation to allergy development.
