Important results from the project
The project aim was to create and share a model for introducing teachers in grades 4-5 to programming in school, including a teacher training, 4 sets of classroom material for project based activities based on assignments from Swedish IT companies, and a prototype for digital study materials to evaluate students understanding of programming, computational thinking and digital skills. All goals have been met and one has been added: a knowledge base with illustrated text chapters about said topics. The target group of the project has been changed to teachers and students in grades 4-6.
Expected long term effects
1. Model for teacher training activities has been developed/tested/launched with 623 participating teachers from 3 cities. 2. Classroom material on 4 themes, based on assignments from IT companies, and a knowledge base for teachers and students, has been developed/tested/launched with 7 identified user schools. Kodboken.se has doubled number of users since launch. 3. Digital study materials that evaluate students understanding of programming, computational thinking and digital skills have been developed/ tested/launched and has been used by 250 schools across the country.
Approach and implementation
- Importance of pilot schools testing the material in classroom environments. - Valuable with ideas, knowledge and review from project partners. - Digital study materials and knowledge base, co-produced with EdQu, exceeded expectations. - Positive response on relevant assignments connected to integrated curriculum. - Leaving project form for area of activity within Kodcentrum. - Discussions with municipalities on long-term support. - Teachers wish for continuous training/mentoring where they can explore, discuss and convert knowledge into practice, this we will now try out.
