Important results from the project

The purpose has been to support and actively participate in the implementation of VINNOVA-supported research results linked to ecodesign, PSS and circular economy research results in the new ISO standards on circular economy (ISO/TC 323). IVIS2 has had a major impact on the design of the standard documents, not least ISO/WD 59004, where we have contributed to writing and formulating large central parts of the document, such as definitions and principles. In ISO/DTR 59032, we have contributed with a number of Swedish examples that come from ongoing and completed projects.

Expected long term effects

During IVIS2s, the circular economy has become increasingly important and central in the work of Swedish business and society and is today seen as an important means of achieving a more sustainable society. The need for standards is also increasingly highlighted as an important means it is important to work and communicate effectively globally. Industry is used to implementing and using standards, and by building on Swedish knowledge, IVIS2 has helped to spread this internationally, which will have a positive global sustainability effect and increase Swedish competitiveness.

Approach and implementation

The work has taken place through active and intensive work in the international standardization work within ISO/TC323 in combination with equally active work within the Swedish Mirror Committee. The work has been about, based on previous and ongoing research linked to the circular economy, ecodesign and product-service systems, contributing to texts concerning definitions, principles, frameworks, etc. Covid19 has caused delays and extra workload, something that required re-prioritization, from planned trips to more time for meetings.
