Important results from the project

The project has been successful through close collaboration with partners from both industry and academia. The main research areas have been use and selection of sensors, sensor fusion, actuation & control, route planning, communication with and HMI aspects of the dispatch system for controlling autonomous vehicles. The research platform consists of a normal truck with the addition of sensors, network and computing capacity. Together with vehicle dispatch it forms a complete system where the vehicle is able to perform transport missions without vehicle driver.

Expected long term effects

The project has developed functions for an autonomous vehicle, including vehicle control utilizing existing systems and off board dispatch for mission assignment, surveillance and collection of production data. Results have been excellent and project demonstrations have been very well received. Today there is a wealth of articles on iQMatic published, both in new spapers and on Internet. We judge that this had led to increased attention to and interest in the science and technology behind autonomous vehicles and that this on a longer term strengthen Sweden´s position in this area.

Approach and implementation

An important factor in the implementation of this project has been that industry partners and academia together have developed a research platform used for practical evaluation of developed methods in perception, planning and regulation. The work in the project has been done with close collaboration between the academy and the industrial partners, where the PhD students active in the project spend a great deal of their time at Scania in Södertälje and actively work with industry partners on a daily basis. This work has resulted in about 20 articles and dissertations.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
