IP strategy of III-V/Si integration

Important results from the project

The main goal of the project is to establish IP strategy in Tandem Sun AB to protect the IP assets of the core III-V/Si integration technology. An IP management framework was developed in the company. A strategy to focus on IP from the very start in all relations with external parties was established. By conducting IP auditing and IP landscape mapping, it is recognized that the patents of Tandem Sun AB are well positioned suitable for the technology. A strategy to explore the full potential of our IP assets was developed for creating new business opportunity and attracting investments.

Expected long term effects

Tandem Sun AB exploits the proprietary III-V/Si epitaxial technology for solar energy production, which is a fast growing and innovation driven market. In this project, the IP consultant helped the company to develop an IP strategy to improve and develop handling of intellectual property as part of the business strategy. A strategy was developed to protect and maximize the value of the assets that have been identified, to strengthen the position of the company on market, and to navigate the landscape in which the company operates, which will be implemented in the operation of company.

Approach and implementation

The project was implemented by a close collaboration between Tandem Sun AB and Kransell & Wennborg KB. The IP strategy development is based on a methodology developed by the Swedish Patent Office (PRV) and VINNOVA, which consists of three steps of 1) Inventory of Intellectual Assets, 2) Surrounding Factors and 3) Intellectual Property Strategy. The patent landscape mapping was conducted based on public databases using PatBase over the key technical fields. By regular meetings between the key player in company and the IP consultant, the goals of project were accomplished successfully.
