Important results from the project
The aim of the project was to identify the needs and requirements where measurement technology can help the Swedish forestry and wood industry, as well as linking research actors and commercial actors in the forestry and wood industries and ICT to see how the two sectors can benefit from each other. In particular, how the ICT industry can benefit the forestry and wood industry. The goal of the project was to identify and prioritize three challenging issues/challenges. Eight challenges have been identified, from which three have been prioritized highest. Thus, the objective has been met.
Expected long term effects
The expectation of the long term impact that ICT and measurement systems can make the Swedish forestry and wood industry more competitive remain after the meetings conducted with participants. This also applies to economic, ecological and social factors. In the application described the project in the short term hope to result in new research projects to solve the challenges identified. Formation around two new research projects are already underway, these are ´Tracibility to and through the woodmill plant´ and ´Measuring quality in logpiles´.
Approach and implementation
The project would convene three workshops with the following content: Workshop 1 : Pinpoint problem issues ( brainstorming ) Workshop 2 : Identify the requirements and needs of these issues respective solutions and identify any deficiencies in earlier attempts to solve them. Workshop3 : How can the issues and needs of the areas taken on to new projects? The outcome in terms of content was according to plans. The set-up with three workshops worked well. It was formed in a creative atmosphere and many ideas came up.
