Purpose and goal

The project aims to develop a suitable evaluation model for what the municipality´s roofs are best suited for, which also shows the socio-economic and environmental values of the ecosystem services that the roofs could generate. Through the project, Järfälla municipality will establish a new data driven way of working with green roofs including planning, optimization and evaluation. In this way, the municipality can maximize the effect of these efforts for an accelerated climate transition, while investments can be justified by demonstrating the benefits achieved.

Expected effects and result

The project intends to develop a horizontal IoT solution that generates data for all phases of the roof, including planning, optimization, maintenance, evaluation and information dissemination. The project is expected to contribute to an increased use of the municipality´s roofs as an enabler for a faster climate transition. The municipality also sees great potential in sharing data from the IoT solution as open data as a way to engage residents and other actors in accelerating climate change.

Planned approach and implementation

Järfälla municipality has the overall project management responsibility and coordinates all actors and stakeholders. Savantic stands for technical expertise and system solutions. Barkarby Science run workshops with reference groups and communicates end results nationally and internationally. KTH assists with expertise in green urban planning and ecosystem services during the course of the project.
