Purpose and goal

Scale-up a circular food production system to a more industrially relevant demonstrator Increase automation and optimise system performance (output, quality and efficiency) Test and validate the economic viability of the system to increase commercial interest.

Expected effects and result

This demonstrator will demonstrate the commercial viability of a sustainable circular food production system. Disruption of value chains where customers can own their own food production facilities rather than buying from long-distance suppliers. Identification of new circular paths in the food production value chain.

Planned approach and implementation

An automated, integrated facility is being built with a land-based fish farm, a vertical farm for leafy greens and an insect farm. The facility is used for a period of two years to test grow the system to achieve the desired yield and quality. Several parameters will be varied to achieve the best combination of yield and quality. Products will be market tested, as well as nutritionally tested in a laboratory. Results from the project will be communicated within the organizations´ network and publicly.
