Purpose and goal
The project aims to reduce methane emissions from cattle to mitigate global warming and achieve net-zero emissions. Methane constitutes a significant portion of agricultural emissions, with 50% of Sweden´s emissions coming from cattle digestion. The goal of the partners is to carry out preparatory work to develop a feed that reduces methane production in cows by optimizing the manufacturing process, preparing trial applications, conducting market analysis, and scaling up production.
Expected effects and result
The project will result in a documented process for optimized lab-scale manufacturing, providing a foundation for further product development. Deliverables include a plan for in vivo studies, including an approved animal testing application, as well as a plan for tests in a real agricultural environment. A market analysis with recommendations on business model and market strategy will also be provided, supporting a future broad launch and implementation of the product.
Planned approach and implementation
The project includes regular biweekly coordination meetings between the parties to review progress and adjust plans. The research companies optimize the manufacturing process through lab-scale tests. The university plans the in vivo studies and prepares the application. The stakeholder organizes tests in an agricultural environment, while the research companies are responsible for cost analysis, market analysis, and strategic planning to ensure both technical and economic feasibility.
