Important results from the project
The goal for the project was to build a parallel, fast 2D-detector. The detector should enable the analysis of 0,1g/ton/metre for Gold, and other heavy, scarce metals for the Orexplore drill core analyser. The project has, through a series of prototypes, showed that the goal is achievable.
Expected long term effects
By showing the feasability of the new technique, Orexplore strengthens it´s competiveness and it´s possibilities for a fast international growth. A commercial, industrial version of the 2D-detector will be designed and manufactured, and be implemented in Orexplores coming products. It corresponds to the market demand for real time information about the contents of the sample.
Approach and implementation
Initially there were greater difficulties than anticipated to find the right supplier of sensor material. It was desireable to find these within Europe, but that goal had to be abandoned, for a Japanese supplier. It has worked out, but has had implications on the communication due to both misunderstanding and distance. It also showed more difficult than envisioned to find the required expertise within electronics for the project. It seems like advanced analog electronics is a narrow field within industry and research in Sweden.
