Innovation Summer Mining and Minerals 2024

Reference number
Coordinator LTU Business AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 440 000
Project duration November 2023 - September 2024
Status Completed

Important results from the project

The project implemented a national summer program where students tackled innovation cases within the mining and mineral value chain. Four students, split into two teams, worked on two cases, moving them closer to market through targeted validation activities aimed at new markets. These activities also allowed both students and case owners to engage with key industry and innovation system stakeholders. The validation was also conducted internationally, establishing contacts beyond Sweden.

Expected long term effects

The long-term effects that the project aims to contribute to are: -The innovations that have been validated enter a market where they can make a real difference -The students have been introduced to exciting actors, seen a career path in the industry and choose to work there. -The case owners have gained a larger contact network of actors who can function as collaborative partners in future innovation work -The case owners use the innovation support system to accelerate the step to market

Approach and implementation

The project setup, including multidisciplinary teams, joint training, dedicated coaches, and prepared case owners, was successful. The timeline, activities, and budget remained within scope, and both students and case owners are pleased with the outcomes. However, challenges with remote student participation (reduced team interaction and coaching efficiency) highlighted the need for future initiatives to be held on-site in Luleå.
