Expected long term effects

• Resource-efficient road maintenance due to optimized activities based on better information and tools for planning, execution and follow-up. • Reduced road user costs linked to road damage. • Reduced emissions from road maintenance, due to efficient road maintenance planning. • More efficient traffic management by collecting and delivering information about acute damage in real time. • Increased gender equality by making the road maintenance attractive through modernized support system.

Approach and implementation

Connected Road Surface Monitoring was an innovation collaboration between the Swedish Transport Administration TRV and InfraSweden. The project was implemented as innovation procurement to develop, demonstrate, evaluate and deliver connected road surface measurement to the Swedish Transport Administration in collaboration with three suppliers. By using the service, TRV will receive information about pavement damage that cannot be captured with conventional road surface measurements.
