Important results from the project
Activities performed by first responders must be ensured to function, even during ongoing pandemics. To prevent illness and reduce the spread of infection, contaminated PPE can be encapsulated at the accident site to separate the user from the contaminated PPE. Projektets objective meant designing an innovation to reduce the spread of infection among public safety personnel and the aim is to thereby increase society´s resilience to epidemics. The innovation has been taken from idea to finished product. The project´s objective has been achieved.
Expected long term effects
The innovation can significantly reduce the spread of infection among first responder and thus increase society´s resilience to epidemics. The project has resulted in a design, IP protection and prototype that has been tested both in lab and in the field. The innovation can be decontaminated in machine washing, can be reused and can be applied to all existing emergency vehicles. The project has resulted in a functional innovation with a good opportunity for commercialization that has global potential.
Approach and implementation
The project has established design and functional requirements in close collaboration with end users. Furthermore, the innovation has been taken through several important TRL phases to prepare for commercialization. As a result, material selection, production methods, production times and cost calculations for series production have been evaluated in order to obtain a commercially viable and economically sustainable end product. The initial project plan has essentially been maintained. The product has unique properties and holds a registered "Patent pending".
