Important results from the project
InnoCent has as the first Swedish example evaluated the use of Health Impact Bonds, also known as Social Impact Bonds in Swedish healthcare. The driving forces to evaluate impact bonds is to identify new resources to finance development of innovative care, to drive focus towards preventive care, to facilitate change management based on requirements from external investors and to stimulate innovation through structured risk sharing.
Expected long term effects
The project has led to new knowledge and innovation in a number of areas. Knowledge and evaluation of the experience of HIB in Swedish health care has been presented and documented and an innovative virtual clinic for young people with type 1 diabetes are in operation. Reimbursement for care through e - health or virtual receptions are introduced in the University Hospital and the project has also actively contributed to the implementation of reimbursements at other hospitals.
Approach and implementation
In addition to knowledge and experience of HIBs in a Swedish healthcare setting the project has also delivered major breakthroughs in terms implementation of innovative e-health and patient involvement. The model and structure of HIB was the important success factor for the results. Highlighting the agreement with an external investor as one and the multidisciplinary team of involvement of economist and performance management in combination with clinical and patient involvement as the other key success factors.
