Important results from the project

OHT is part of a consortium led by RISE that has applied for funding from Horizon-CL5-2021-D3-D3-10 “Innovative foundations, floating substructures and connection systems for floating PV and ocean energy devices.” The project concerns the development and sea testing of an innovative concrete material for floating structures. The buoy in InfinityWEC (OHT´s wave energy converter) is used as a user case in the project to show benefits that can be achieved with the material.

Expected long term effects

The result of the project is that a consortium led by RISE, with partners from Sweden, Norway, Poland, the Netherlands and Spain, has submitted a project proposal to Horizon Europe to develop the material concrete for floating structures. The buoy in OHT´s Infinity is used as a user case in the project, to demonstrate the benefits in cost and environmental impact of using concrete in floating structures. The expected effect of the project is to lift the TRL of sustainable concrete in floating structures increases and verify the buoy in InfinityWEC in sea trials.

Approach and implementation

Based on the very promising results from the ongoing WECHull project, a plan was developed in collaboration with RISE, to refine the new innovative concrete mix, validate the manufacturing process, and verify the characteristics in sea trials with InfinityWEC´s buoy as user case. A consortium from Norway, Sweden, Poland, the Netherlands and Spain has therefore submitted the funding application "WECHull+" to Horizon Europe´s call HORIZON-CL5-2021-D3-D3-10 Innovative foundations, floating substructures and connection systems for floating PV and ocean energy devices
