Important results from the project
The project objectives were: (1) Understand IAS requirements for aviation systems. This was accomplished through the field study and case study. (2) Identify and structure solutions for IAS and systems integration. This was accomplished through the case study. (3) Develop decision framework. This was accomplished by the attached decision framework. (4) Identify performance and quality indicators of IAS within aviation systems. This was accomplished by the case study.
Expected long term effects
The field study, case study and decision framework achieved and validated the project proposed results to understand & categorize information assurance and security ( IAS) requirements for aviation systems, and to provide solutions for enhanced IAS and systems integration. The expected results are continuing to be achieved with an increased awareness within Saab of the importance and significance of airworthiness security to protect the airworthiness of an aircraft from a security threat.
Approach and implementation
This research has contributed to the analysis of aviation legacy systems based on its focus on vulnerability analysis. This in turn will have a larger and broader impact on the design and implementation of future systems, as well as the procurement of new systems to connect to and replace existing aviation legacy systems.
