Important results from the project
One of the project aims was to establish how the system CFRP adhesive optical fiber, functions over time when exposed to a varying air humidity and temperature. The purpose is to enable measurements on small deformations in carbon fiber fixtures. To reach this goal, relevant specimens have been manufactured and tested in a controlled environment, being varied with respect to air humidity and temperature. The results show that the technology will be possible to use commercially.
Expected long term effects
The results show that it is possible to commercialize the application, given that it is possible to compensate for variations in temperature and air humidity. This will increase the reliability in fixtures manufactured from CFRP in a crucial way, since one can measure and in the long run also compensate for small deformations in the fixture. Parts of the project constellation have also continued with this application in new projects to develop the technology and the concept with CFRP fixtures.
Approach and implementation
In the first part of the project, sample geometries were worked out and how the experiments were to be designed. This was followed by test measurements, forming the basis for how the full scale tests were to be performed. The work with future possibilities has been conducted in parallel. The project has chosen to focus on the measurement technology and to perform tests being relevant for the real application. The tests have been successful since they have brought the technology and the application one step closer to commercialization.
