Important results from the project

The purpose of the project is for patient and user representatives together with relevant stakeholders, to develop and achieve the goal of a collaboration model for increased patient and user influence in the HTA (Health Technology Assessment) processes involving the introduction for new treatments and drugs . Based on the challenges and results from step 1, the solution has been redefined. Our plan is still to achieve the original goal long term. In step 2 we plan to continue developing the alternative solution and focus on further analyzing and influencing structural factors.

Expected long term effects

Working to increase patient and user influence is important. Step 1 shows that patient and user representatives want to participate early in the process and the majority doesn´t believe this happens today. The long-term effect is a more needs-adapted healthcare with shorter care times, increased quality of life, less sick leave, lower production losses and less strain on relatives. Developing a collaboration model for HTA is a long-term objective. One challenge during the current pandemic has been to involve the necessary stakeholders such as authorities and decision-makers.

Approach and implementation

The project partners have performed regular work meetings. Covid-19 has contributed to a changed way of working. Physical meetings have been replaced by telephone /web interviews and two webinars. Performed activities: - Mapping of patient and user influence - External monitoring - Interviews with patient and user advocates, administrative and HTA authorities and politicians - Webinar focusing on patient and user influence with connection to Agenda 2030 - Webinar focusing on increasing the participants´ knowledge of the HTA process and present a potential HTA model for step 2.
