Important results from the project
The heteronorm everywhere prevent people´s opportunity to live their lives free from discrimination and violence. Our objective was to explore new approaches and solutions to the equality challenge relating to equal rights for LGBTQ people and to give more people the chance to participate in the gayrights fight in a simple way. A new unique website HateSucks has been created with the aim of making LGBTQ people’s situation more visible, facilitating collaboration between gay rights organizations and simplifying communication between organizations and people in the LGBTQ community.
Expected long term effects
During the analysis phase we found that the majority of traditional gay rights organizations do not fully utilize new technology and we believe that they should be able to benefit greatly from using the HateSucks platform, both for knowledge exchange with other organizations and to reach and engage more people in the LGBTQ community. In the feedback phase that is still ongoing, we have begun to invite organizations and collect interview responses and data on how the platform is used to understand how we can build on to further contribute to the gay rights struggle.
Approach and implementation
We started by doing a norm-critical analysis and deep dive into the problem to understand what people who break the cis and heteronorm living situation and needs look like. Our social networking app LesBeSocial has been used to reach people in the gay community and organizations working for gay rights have been involved through the HateSucks website. NOVA (Tools and Methods for Norm Creative Innovation) has been an important support both in the initial norm critical analysis and throughout the innovation process and we will take this way of working with us to future development work.
