Important results from the project
The project aimed to further investigate how knowledge of the raw material´s properties can be used to integrate forest and forest industry and thereby increase resource efficiency in processes and the quality of the end product. This would be done by analyzing data from the participating companies and by illustrating the concept of digital property declarations in a demonstrator. All purposes and objective have been fulfilled with good results.
Expected long term effects
The project would deliver analysis of how the properties vary in the forest raw material and how this variation affects processes and end products. The project has analyzed large amounts of data from the participating companies and built infrastructure to calculate properties of pulpwood and sawmill chips based on available data. The results have also been communicated outside the project group. The project has led to an increased knowledge in the industry about the possibilities with digital property declarations and how this concept could create value for both industry and forestry
Approach and implementation
The project was based on a number of case studies at the participating companies where data from the operations were collected and analyzed with Skogforsk´s and RISE´s research tools to describe variations in the raw material and effects of the variations on the end product. Two demonstrators were built - one at Biometria and one at Sveaskog - where the concept of digital property declarations was demonstrated and tested against the companies´ own data. Regular meetings with all project parties were held during the project.
