Important results from the project
Our main goal, which was to start developing a motion resistance model that can take in road-weather data based on real-world predictions, was well met. However, we needed to adjust the plan because certain weather data was significantly more difficult to obtain than planned. This meant that we could not fulfill one of the original goals, which was to send real-time data to Volvo´s simulation environment. We have been able to use the result in other project within energy prediction.
Expected long term effects
The results mean that in a few years´ time we can make more advanced energy predictions where road-weather is taken into account. This can be incorporated into a range of Volvo applications such as range prediction, dimensioning, route planning, control systems and sales tools.
Approach and implementation
Step 1. Volvo and Klimator share overall knowledge in energy prediction and road weather prediction. Step2. Volvo and Klimator share refined knowledge, in order to focus on what is currently possible to implement. Volvo develops motion resistance model. Step 3. Klimator validates delivered data by comparing with stationary sensors on the road. Volvo validates data for trucks on the road. Step 4. Summary of achieved results and what would need to be done in a next step.
