Implementation of welfare technology for people with cognitive difficulties.

Important results from the project

We wanted to create curiosity and understanding of the use of technical solutions for activities for people with cognitive difficulties. Today we are seeing that this development stopp because the staff do not have knowledge and aren´t comfortable with the use of technology. In the project staff has curiously tested and implemented some new solutions around users and good examples are scattered. The tutorial has been given and the material has been developed to provide support for the use of technology and implementation work around the users.

Expected long term effects

For people with cognitive difficulties technical solutions that facilitate planning, learning, communication and information, gives a great opportunity to gain control over his or hers life. To be able to have control over when I want to listen to music or to express my will is not obvious to all. In the project the time was to short. All purchases took a long time, we had trouble getting technical support and our internet connections were not good enough. But many of the users in the project, after testing also pioneered the use of technological solutions to a greater extent.

Approach and implementation

The project team started with information for managers to select a pilot area. A first Workshop was conducted where the team showed a range of welfare technical solutions as well as information on efforts to understand and identify the persons needs and difficulties. Mentors and technology was offered to all units. Difficulties have been surrounding the conditions in terms of assigned time, connections did not work and purchases. Here we see the managers as important. Managers must be the one who create good conditions and motivating implementation.
