Important results from the project
The aim of the project was to develop and demonstrate new technology for condition assessment of bridges. Inspections and assessments are today performed manually as separate activities. The overall aim of the project was to establish a service that can make the assessment more efficient, and combine the different actions in a unified estimation of the physical condition of a bridge. With the demonstration on the Västerbron in Stockholm, the project shows that a sensor-based method is possible to implement through the whole chain from sensors to support of decisions by management.
Expected long term effects
bridges. The platform is described on the webpage www.iotbridge.se and has been presented at seminars arranged together with Trafikverket and the City of Stockholm (Trafikkontoret). The expected effects are on one side that the bridge managers will implement more modern and efficient condition assessment activities, and on the other side, that the implementation on the Västerbron will show the way for further technical development.
Approach and implementation
The interviews and literature reviews in AP1 and AP2 initiated the project to identify challenges that the bridge owners experience. It was followed by technical development of the platform for condition assessment, running in parallel with the instrumentation of the Västerbron. Seminars and dissemination of results have been recurrent activities during the project. To reach the overall aim, the technical development has been adapted to the needs and requests by the owners. Advanced technical functionality has partly been put aside to favour the usefulness of the decision support.
