Purpose and goal

Hydrogen Logistics, HyLo, is a preparation project led by Lindholmen Science Park. During the period January-September 2025, HyLo will prepare a system demonstration project with about 50 heavy hydrogen trucks and work machines as well as associated hydrogen infrastructure in Sweden. The goal of HyLo is to create conditions for such a project with all key players to be able to start at the beginning of 2026. The Volvo Group, Scania, Hydri and Statkraft participate as industrial partners in HyLo.

Expected effects and result

The aim of the system demonstration is to remove obstacles to the market introduction of hydrogen-powered vehicles. This means that a wide range of issues need to be addressed, for example in vehicle technology, refuelling infrastructure, hydrogen supply, logistics systems, policy and regulations, business models as well as issues around behaviour, acceptance and gender equality. For policy influence and standardization, international cooperation is important.

Planned approach and implementation

A system demonstration project is planned for the period 2026-2029 where * Ca 40-60 vehicles from at least two manufacturers are put into operation, with internal combustion engines or fuel cells for propulsion * Ca 5 different users of the vehicles are included * At least one owner of hydrogen filling stations and one producer of hydrogen are included. After this project with prototype vehicles, the plan is to establish a project with at least one hundred hydrogen-powered vehicles in Sweden.
