Important results from the project

It is confirmed that hydrogen production is possible in Kraftringen´s owner municipalities at a reasonable cost. Synergies were identified with wastewater treatment plants, where residual heat, oxygen and hydrogen can be used, which makes biogas production more efficient and reduces raw gas use. Valuable collaborations between business, municipalities and hydrogen stakeholders has been created which strengthens the entire value chain and enables a coordinated effort of hydrogen as a fuel.

Expected long term effects

The project´s results can drive long-term investments in hydrogen and e-fuels, creating energy clusters and strengthening Skåne’s energy self-sufficiency. More controllable electricity use enables increased renewable energy from solar and wind. The project has also raised knowledge levels and laid the groundwork for future initiatives, supporting further investments.

Approach and implementation

The project was carried out based on planned work packages. During the project, synergies between hydrogen production and wastewater treatment plants were identified, which resulted in two suitable sites being selected instead of one. This led to an extension of the project to enable in-depth investigations of both sites for hydrogen production. The in-depth investigations also meant that more in-depth simulations could be carried out to analyze the conditions at the sites.
