Important results from the project
The purpose of Children´s Housing First has been to gather relevant actors (owners of the problem as well as owner of the solutions) to establish a knowledge alliance and create a platform of collaboration where the actors can evaluate existing working methods to address homelessness among families with children. The goal of the project has been to generate a model based on this evaluation that uses the methodology Housing First, where housing is guaranteed together with preventive measures.
Expected long term effects
Based on commonly defined problems and solutions, the project´s knowledge alliance (KA) has formulated proposals for a short-term resp. long-term model to guarantee housing for families with children, increase equality and reduce society´s costs. KA has identified that the division between structural and social homelessness often is meaningless since homeless families, regardless the reason for it, often need support. The models can be seen as a way to get beyond the dichotomy of general/ selective housing policy and break down the contraposition of the different perspectives.
Approach and implementation
The core of the project has been four labs where the knowledge alliance has been formed. The process has been exploratory where the results of each lab have defined the issue for the next. The participants have prepared the discussions by mapping, analyzing, evaluating and collecting statistics and knowledge. The labs has been set up to shed light on the current issue from each actor´s perspective and result in a number of questions or theses that the project can build on. In this way, both the problem and the solution have been anchored in a broad constellation of actors.
