Important results from the project
The number of horses in Sweden is about 355,000. Everyone must have a horse passport, a physical document for identification, for limited spread of diseases and that medicines do not end up in the food chain. The information is easy to manipulate and there is a large number of dead horses. HIDB designs a prototype system: simple, cheap, secure and time-saving, for verification of the horse´s identity and other important information. The blockchain eliminates the risk of cheating. The system is connected to the chip that all horses receive today. The model is scalable in for Europe
Expected long term effects
We can create a system that can handle horse passes, in Sweden and Europe (EU). We have identified the necessary data points and the interviews have been very positive about the development work. The work in the project gave insight into the conditions that exist, we can solve the technology for the system. However, we must continue to work with "politics" in the unions. During the project, we have received positive information from the unions that they are starting to work actively with the issue of digitizing horse passes and they are positive about our solution.
Approach and implementation
We have conducted in-depth interviews with several breeding associations, which issue horse passes. Interviews with insurance companies, Interviews Equestrian Federation. Interviews with the Swedish Board of Agriculture, interviews with a veterinarian. This is to identify all the necessary data points that need to be included in the system. Then we sketched out the first conceptual design prototype based on blockchain.
