Important results from the project

The goal of the Pilot phase of project Home Control was to identify the need for home security system in Stockholm´s suburbs. Since the risk of having a breakin or fire is very high in these areas and the home security products available in the market are expensive, the project goal was to identify which type of product can be attractive to the inhabitants of the suburbs. This goal was achieved by specifying product functions and a price that is acceptable for the inhabitants.

Expected long term effects

The result of the Pilot phase of project Home Control is specifications of a prototype product which is suitable as home security device for low income groups. The product is designed by students and uses standard electronic components to keep costs of development low.

Approach and implementation

The following steps have been taken during the project: o Market analysis of the need using surveys in the specified areas. o Market analysis of all the products and services already present today as an alternative to the residents. o Design Workshop for the students. A workshop to help students form their ideas into products using designing tools. o Product funktion analysis. Analysis of what functions are important to have in the product. o Prototype development, which is still in progress.
