Important results from the project

Holidev project has developed a new approach: ‘AI-engineering’ that comprises all aspects of development and deployment of AI-enabled systems (i.e. systems that contain AI components and services). We have developed an AI engineering framework in which we have identified the key activities involved in the engineering process of these systems, as well as research challenges we need to solve to help companies to accelerate their practices and become successful AI companies, or successful in using AI technologies.

Expected long term effects

The results of HoliDev are manyfold. In addition to more than 20 research papers, several already highly citied, several prototypes and frameworks were developed with the industrial partners, and they are adopting by the partners. HoliDev researchers had several invited talks at prestigious international conferences and national events. Further, HoliDev researchers developed a course ‘Software Engineering for AI’ at the Software Engineering and Management bachelor program at Chalmers/Gothenburg University, and a course for professionals “Management of AI projects”.

Approach and implementation

HoliDEV is a consortium of Chalmers/Gothenburg University, Malmö University, and industrial partners Volvo Group, Volvo Cars, and Ericsson. HoliDev closely collaborated with Software Center and Chalmers AI Research Center which enabled an extensive collaboration with the industrial partners from these centers. The cooperation included exploration and case studies, building prototypes and methods, and having common workshops. Most of the companies found the topics of the project very important in their early phase of adoption of AI in their development.
