Project duration November 2017 - November 2020
Status Completed
Venture The strategic innovation programme for Production2030

Important results from the project

The purpose has been to give the industry access to future jointing techniques for hybrid jointing to meet the requirements for joining in future lightweight designs that are often based on material combinations that cannot be welded. The goal has been to create the conditions for a digitized and monitored hybrid joining process for adhesive joining, assembly, and mechanical joining, with possibilities to co-program these processes with real-time parameters (cyber physics), to meet Industry 4.0.

Expected long term effects

The result of making available and performing tests for the participating companies has worked well and in accordance with the project description. In the project conditions, the companies would co-finance each research hour by two hours. But the preparation time for the experiments has rather led to two research hours per business hour, sometimes more. Internationally mentioned and published at several conferences and collaborations with corresponding test beds established. External assignments have been performed outside the project group.

Approach and implementation

As in a customer situation, the participating companies have ordered tests that the researchers have performed on the equipment. The intention was prepared experiments on whole components such as doors, hoods etc. as the equipment is full-size production equipment with a high degree of automation. However, the preparation of the tests has required more time than intended. A considerable number of tests have been performed, but the corona epidemic has resulted in a dropout rate since March 2020. Tests have been performed in all equipment, but some more than others.
