Important results from the project

The goal has largely been achieved. The results show potential to improve urban freight transport by consolidating smaller shipments through a city hub and using electric vehicles for quieter off-peak deliveries. Off-peak deliveries can increase transport efficiency by 30%, while consolidation can reduce delivery traffic by 50%. Property owners play a key role in coordination. A sustainable transport transition requires collaboration, standardization, and digital systems.

Expected long term effects

HITS explores how new technology contributes to sustainable transportation. The most significant reduction in environmental impact in cities will come from the transition to e-vehicles. Digitalization and datasharing between systems will help optimize transport operations. Optimization should focus on utilizing existing infrastructure, load capacity, and energy efficiency. This will lead to a better urban environment and reduced climate impact. There is also potential to create safer deliveries.

Approach and implementation

HITS is an agile project, meaning we have engaged in continuous learning and revision of goal frameworks. Planning has been done incrementally, approximately every 12 weeks. This allowed us to continuously evaluate whether we were conducting the right activities. HITS has primarily used design methodology, with a strong focus on the user perspective. We have conducted around 20 tests and seven pilots and developed three future scenarios, with two future demonstrations planned.
