Important results from the project
The purpose of the project has been to develop a process allowing the forming of aircraft alloys Titan Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-3Al-2.5 involving a combination of Flexform high pressure forming at medium to low temperature.
Expected long term effects
The project demonstrated the possibility of an environmentally friendly and cost efficient new process combination. A part and tool demonstrator is available for the process after the completion of the project. Further a small-scale process line has been developed, manufactured and put in operation at Quintus Technologies to demonstrate the complete process. A forming simulation model has also been developed for the process.
Approach and implementation
The project was divided into separate Work Packages (W P); ´Process validation´ and ´Development of a production system´. W P ´Process validation´ included a literature survey, the development of a forming simulation model and process testing in lab environment. The W P ´Development of a production system´ included development and manufacturing of a heating and handling system to efficiently handle production and to control critical process parameters.
