Important results from the project

The project has laid the foundations for a new class of high-performance graphene polymer nanocomposites based on a unique type of hierarchical graphene filler. The preparation procedure has been a simple melt-mixing procedure, a critical step towards industrial scalability. The performance assessment of the nanocomposites has included their electrical, thermal, mechanical, rheological etc. Thus, tailored nanocomposite with superior electrical, thermal, mechanical and crystallization properties to existing commercial solutions have been developed.

Expected long term effects

The polymer nanocomposites developed have superior or comparable multifunctional properties to available large-scale solutions currently available on the market. Processability considerations have been covered through a thorough evaluation of the nanocomposites’ rheological properties. Furthermore, the know-how generated in terms of tailoring the molecular architecture of the polymers and hybrid compositions cover a broad range of solutions for different manufacturing and product performance challenges.

Approach and implementation
