Important results from the project
The purpose of the planning grant was to enable the Swedish actors to actively participate in the design of the consortium Innolife´s application to the European Institute for Innovation and Technology, EIT, to establish a Knowledge and Innovation Community, KIC, in the area of Healthy Living and Active Ageing. The grant has enabled a strong Swedish influence in the application process and thus also opened up opportunities for further positioning within the consortium.
Expected long term effects
The EIT announced in December 2014 that Innolife had been appointed as a KIC named EIT Health. EIT will provide a start-up grant of 4 million euro to EIT Health, and EIT Health has now initiated the work to develop a business plan during Q1-2 2015. New legal structures will be established and a CEO will be recruited. The Scandinavian office will be placed in Stockholm. Allocation of project funding to EIT Health will be based on the business plan and subject to competition with other KICs.
Approach and implementation
The idea was to build a Scandinavian node with not only academic and industrial partners, but also public actors such as Stockholm city and County Councils as these will largely be the recipients of the services, products and processes EIT Health is expected to deliver. Time and effort has been devoted to meetings and activities of various kinds in order to identify areas of common interest. The design has been based on clarity and transparency between the parties involved.
