Important results from the project

The aim of Guide2Wear was to analyse different wearable devices and their potential impact and benefit for the future traveller. Different communication solutions that are currently available, or close to be launched, was the starting point for the project. The overall goal was to implement a public transport navigation system which calculates the whole journey and is as easy to use as a car navigation system. The system was then adapted to a wearable device, providing new functions such as support in the use of a ticket machine and guidance to the relevant platform.

Expected long term effects

The objective was to improve intermodal mobility for passengers. The development of a prototype which should support and guide the traveller was based on results looking at the technological state of the art of wearable devices, but also user needs and preferences and legal aspects. The prototype which is linked to a smart watch is connected to the smart phone and gives information about time, cost, how to get to the station. when to get off etc. The prototype was both evaluated and demonstrated and a handbook with recommendations published.

Approach and implementation

The project included four scientific and two administrative wp. The first scientific one assessed current technologies and apps supporting intermodal mobility. The second one studied user needs and preferences through the uses of focus groups. The third tested the prototypes usability, utility and user acceptance but also which wearable device to use. The fourth was a demonstration project when the prototype was tested and evaluated. Finally, a handbook sharing the experiences gained within the project was published.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
