Important results from the project
The aim of this project was to plan the arrangement of a challenge prize in order to promote innovation of environmentally friendly cleaning methods that effectively prevents chemical and biological debris accumulate in dishwashers. The aim was also to increase the project partners’ knowledge of a challenge prize as an open innovation activity and for the need owner to find solutions from external innovators. The goals in this project were a need analysis, the formulation of a challenge and the design of a challenge prize process. All goals have been met.
Expected long term effects
The biofilm issues of dishwashers have been investigated in the form of a needs analysis and a formulation of a concrete challenge for an innovation competition. The needs analysis covered among other things biofilms on surfaces, current research actors, potential innovators including motives and risk for them in a challenge prize. It also discussed the market for solutions. A complete prize challenge process has been formulated and budgeted with focus on entrepreneurs and innovative SMEs in Sweden and the Nordic region as the primary target group.
Approach and implementation
The planning project has been conducted in the form of two major work meetings and two telephone meetings. The first meeting focused on the background analysis and the problem formulation and the other on formulating the challenge prize process. Additional contacts were made with the RISE head of open innovation and with an external expert on innovation competitions. Experience sharing took place with the other projects (VINNOVA workshop and afterwards).
