Important results from the project
The goal was to identify an application where biobased adhesives can be enhanced by addition of graphene to replace fossile adhesives, to gain knowledge regarding technical requirements, the market and market potential and relevant companies along the value chain. The overall goal of developing the value chain, establishing a strong business consortium, and developing the project proposal for the demonstrator project for graphene was accomplished. The demonstrator project has a strong business consortium, that creates very good conditions for development of new products.
Expected long term effects
The future of graphene in bio-based adhesives looks very bright. With the results we have about graphene in starch-based adhesives and the tests that have been done on other cellulose-based adhesives, there are good conditions for companies to be able to launch several new products based on graphene within two years. The project has ensured that we have the partners and expertise we need for the demonstrator project. SLU together with participating companies has access to the necessary skills, financial resources and equipment needed for the continued work.
Approach and implementation
A strong consortium of companies has been established in the project. A market analysis was performed and the market potential for the companies in the value chain was analyzed. Through the market analysis, we gained a good understanding of how important sustainability is for companies and the opportunities that graphene has to contribute to sustainability and resource efficiency within the value chain. The preparation project has ensured that we have the partners and expertise we need for the demonstrator project.
