Graphene for resource efficient rubber materials

Reference number
Coordinator 2D fab AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 300 000
Project duration August 2021 - December 2021
Status Completed
Venture Strategic innovation program SIO Grafen
Call Preparation project for Innovation and Demonstration projects

Important results from the project

- The application with greatest technical potential has been identified as sealings of graphene reinforced EPDM rubber. - The market analysis shows great potential for the chosen application and large product volumes for all members of the value chain. - A consortium has been formed with 2D fab, Roxtec and EcoRub. Together they constitute a strong foundation for developing a demonstrator in the upcoming project. The preparation project has achieved its purpose, to enable a successful demonstrator project for graphene reinforced EPDM sealings.

Expected long term effects

The project has achieved the expected results and effects. By analyzing test results from potential applications and rubber materials, the application with the greatest potential and best technical conditions has been selected. The market has been analyzed and a plan for commercialization developed. One result of the project has also been to include recycling in the demonstrator project, which is very positive where graphene can be used to improve and enable the recycling of EPDM.

Approach and implementation

The project has followed the specified time plan and implemented the work packages described in the project application. Collaboration with the companies has worked well where tests have been carried out and evaluated. The value chain has been analyzed at the overall level and a deeper analysis have been done for the chosen application. At the end of the project, the focus was on planning the demonstrator project together in the corporate constellation.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
