Important results from the project
We built a web application, www.gpslektion.se, where teachers can create lessons that consists of GPS coordinates. On gpslektion.se one can create a lesson, where each coordinate can contain text, images and links. The lesson can be visited by students with their cell phones, and students can see on a map where they are, and easily find all the points that the teacher specified. There they can follow the instructions that the teacher entered, who, simultaneously, can monitor everybody on a map. The goal was to make it easier for teachers to use mobile devices and create GPS-led classes.
Expected long term effects
It is too early to assess the effects on a large scale, but the students who tested the system have been supportive of the idea, and the creation of the lessons also worked well, so from the teacher perspective, the effects have been positive.
Approach and implementation
The application was created by a programmer, in consultation with a teacher, and this collaboration worked well. With such a small project team, we could quickly make changes and customizations.
