Important results from the project
The aim of the agenda was to identify research and innovation opportunities, based on the patient/consumer´s overall needs, that can improve the quality of life for people with food hypersensitivity. We also wanted to gather all key players in academia, industry and the public sector to devise a strategy on how we can work together to create a better quality of life for those with food hypersensitivity. The response has been extremely positive and the majority of respondents were very excited to participate in this work.
Expected long term effects
The agenda outlines a strategy for a national centre for food hypersensitivity, where we bring together many of Sweden´s strengths in areas such as medical research and food production, to take a holistic approach to one of our most common diseases. We have engaged key players in the relevant fields and now wish to move on and seek funding to develop the centre. The centre will operate and co-ordinate research, innovation and knowledge transfer about food allergy and other hypersensitivity to food.
Approach and implementation
Based on interviews with patients, we have identified three key areas within the area of food allergy and other hypersensitivity to food, where we see a significant need and potential for development: ´From molecule to man´, ´From farm to fork´ and ´From paper to practice´. We have analysed the value chains in each of these areas and interviewed key stakeholders to gather an overview of the needs, strengths, challenges and opportunities. Together, we have formed a vision and a strategy to meet the needs of those with food hypersensitivities.
