Purpose and goal
Create an European infrastructure for genomics data of central imporance for the European 1+ Million Genome project.
Expected effects and result
Development, deployment and operation of sustainable data-access infrastructures including legal frameworks, operational procedures and ethics principles required to foster and maintain citizens´ trust in cross-border access to highly sensitive personal data. Authorised data users, e.g. clinicians, researchers and innovators, will be able to advance our understanding of genomics for more precise and faster clinical diagnostics, treatments and predictive medicine, and improved public health measures that will benefit citizens, healthcare and the overall economy.
Planned approach and implementation
The Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI) project brings together national agencies, research organisations, and technology providers in 22 countries to provide a cross-border federated network of national genome collections. The work is divided into three main components: 1. Long-term sustainability, 2. 1+MG infrastructure deployment, and 3. Application and innovation solutions. UU is mainly involved in component 2, where we are engaged in four WPs -- WP3 Deployment of 1+MG national nodes, WP4 European level service development, WP5 Technical coordination, WP6 Data management.
